Times Tables

At Walmley Junior School we have always been passionate about learning our times tables! Being confident with times tables is a crucial skill that we want all of our children to have. Many areas of Mathematics become more accessible when facts are known.

From 2020, all Year 4 pupils across the country will be assessed electronically on their times tables up to 12 x 12 (multiplication facts only). Children are expected to recall facts quickly and there will be a time limit for them to answer each question. To help support children with this, we have introduced an exciting, award winning platform in school called Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS).

https://ttrockstars.com/

Pupils are given opportunities in school to practise their tables, improve their own unique rockstar status and move up the leaderboard. Children will be encouraged to also access this from home. TTRS can be downloaded via the app from all electronic devices or by logging onto their website. More parent/carer information can be found by following the website and video below:

Additionally, you can get ‘rocking and rolling’ with TTRS who have an excellent range of videos and songs to support with pupils learning their tables.

WJS Times Tables Challenges

We also have our own 33, 66 and 99 Club Challenge times table system. Children need to learn the times table facts to work towards completing the challenges and earning their wristbands.

The 33 Bronze Club Challenge includes the facts of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and has to be completed accurately in 3 minutes.

The 66 Silver Club Challenge includes the facts of the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 times tables and has to be completed accurately in 5 minutes.

The 99 Gold Club Challenge includes the facts of all the times tables up to 12 x 12 and has to be completed accurately in 8 minutes.

We also have a 100 Platinum Club Challenge which consists of advanced number skills and facts. This challenge can only attempted when the 99 Gold Club Challenge can be completed accurately in under 3 minutes – this is a tough challenge!

Your child will be practising their times tables frequently at school in order to know the facts inside out and back to front! This will enable them to work their way up through our 33, 66 and 99 system. We have a special assembly each half term to celebrate those children who have achieved a new times table award. In order to support them with this, we would really appreciate your support at home with practising their tables on a regular basis.
